Alter EcoNourishing Foodie, Farmer and Field

Farmers in Baltimore

Six Bolivian quinoa farmers visited the U.S. this year with our friend, Sergio Nuñez de Arco of Andean Naturals. They visited Washington, D.C. and Baltimore for the annual Natural Products Expo East. Farmers Efigenia, Irineo and Arturo are siblings from the Urcuri community in the Pampa Aullagas Region of Bolivia. Raised in the countryside, they had never been on an airplane or seen the ocean. Irineo told Sergio that when they were young they dreamt about traveling and one day being served in a hotel. Their dream came true on this trip.

The group visited a Whole Foods Market so they could see their quinoa on the shelf.  The farmers were happy to see Alter Eco pouches, the only company that actually mentions smallholder organic farmers, and “Royal Quinoa,” product of Bolivia on their bags.

Below are some photos from there visit.  If you want to learn more about Bolivian Royal Quinoa, our farmer partners and the regions where Alter Eco quinoa is grown, we have some great videos on Youtube here and here

Farmers with Sam - laughing

Our National Sales Manager, Sam Shisler, spent some time with the group while at Expo East. We can only imagine that Sam attempted to say something in Spanish right before this photo.

They then visited a major club retailer and of course, tried some samples.
