Coconut Oil

The superfood oil, our pure organic coconut oil comes from a fair trade cooperative on India’s tropical Malabar Coast. Coconut oil adds the rich and creamy texture to the inside of our chocolate truffles. For us, coconut oil is a more sustainable alternative to other oils used in the chocolate making process, such as palm oil. Where palm oil has been devastating communities and wildlife habitats for decades, the Fair Trade Alliance Kerala Cooperative practices “jaiva krishi” (ജൈവകൃഷി), a sustainable natural farming method mimicking virgin rainforest, where birds, squirrels, and even wild endangered elephants roam safely. It is also a healthier alternative as coconut oil, especially from organic and natural farming systems, has an amazing list of benefits.

Five Facts about Coconut Oil Nutrition

  1. Coconut oil has a high fat content of medium chain triglycerides that go straight to the liver. There they provide a quick source of energy or are turned into ketones.

  2. Some studies have shown the production of ketones to be a beneficial source of brain power for Alzheimer’s patients.

  3. This route of metabolizing is also responsible for the other good cholesterol results from eating coconut oil.

  4. Some people use coconut oil to improve dental health and get rid of bad breath through a practice called oil pulling, where the coconut oil is swished and pulled around the mouth.

  5. Coconut oil is filled with lauric acid, a fatty acid that is effective at killing bacteria, viruses and fungi.
