Burnt Caramel Bar Glow-Up: Wheat Out, Joy In!

At Alter Eco, our mission never stops to improve our chocolate so that it is easier for all to love.

Back in March, we shared a blog post explaining why wheat allergen had to be added to our Burnt Caramel bar label, and clarified how it was still certified gluten-free. But, that tiny amount of wheat-derived glucose syrup ingredient kept stealing the spotlight and caused confusion. So, we thought that it was time to simplify and do a recipe glow-up! 🍫

Thank you to everyone who reached out and shared feedback.

You spoke up. We listened. And we got to work!

Unwrapping the New & Improved Recipe

Starting in December 2025 you’ll be seeing a new recipe of our Burnt Caramel bar on shelves at retailers and available for purchase online. Perfect timing for holiday season gift giving and chocolate cravings!

We worked with our Swiss chocolatier this year to completely remove the wheat-derived glucose syrup from the recipe. That means no more wheat in the ingredient list or allergen statement. 🚫🌾

Same indulgent Burnt Caramel bar. Less label confusion. Any mention or suggestion of wheat out, joy in! 🎉

Gluten-Free You Can Count On

With this recipe glow-up, our standards haven’t budged in terms of gluten-free. The Burnt Caramel bar has been and will continue to be certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Food Program (GFFP). Their limit is 5 ppm gluten or less, which is stricter than the FDA’s current limit of 20 ppm gluten.

Seeing wheat allergen on any gluten-free product can make anyone do a double take—especially when navigating Celiac disease and other gluten intolerances. The wording on the label felt more confusing than comforting, despite being backed by rigorous science and testing.

It’s all of the gluten-free Burnt Caramel decadence you’ve come to expect…but even more swoon-worthy now that that any whiff of even the word “wheat has officially left the bar! 🥳
