being a good neighbor

in our own backyard

While we strive to make a positive impact wherever we go, our own backyard has always been fertile ground for doing good.

Giving back and supporting our local community is very important to the Alter Eco family. That's why every employee is encouraged to take three paid work days per year to support a cause of their choice. These causes range from planting trees and beach and park cleanups to serving food at Glide Memorial Church, partnering with In Good Company to build green spaces in urban neighborhoods, and supporting local cause-related events like Earth Day and MLK Day. We also make regular cash and product donations to the organizations our team members feel passionate about, and support local vendors helping to reduce waste, like Imperfect Produce and SF Recology.

Building bikes as a team for Turning Wheels for Kids

One of the most memorable events from recent years came from our annual holiday party. We partnered with an inspiring organization called Turning Wheels for Kids, who provide children with brand new bikes to encourage life long habits of exercise, outdoor activity and independence. As a team, we purchased, built and donated brand new bikes to ten disadvantaged children in our neighborhood.

Stewards of zero waste living

Every Alter Eco employee takes a tour of San Francisco’s groundbreaking Recology plant, so we can all be advocates for proper recycling and waste disposal. And as charter members of Bay Area advocacy group OSC2, we are leading the shift away from plastic packaging. Because when it comes to backyards, we think the pouch holding your quinoa should fertilize your soil instead of polluting the oceans.
